food fondness: pear galette

This post needs more images than words, so I'll keep it short and sweet. I'd been itching to try my hand at a galette (imagine a supremely rustic, open-faced pie) for a while. Dough in general scares me a little bit, as there are so many things that have to be done perfectly in order for it to turn out correctly. But I've been on a cooking/baking kick and my confidence (and acceptance of failure) has skyrocketed in that department.

So when I spotted this pear galette in the newest issue of Sweet Paul Magazine, I decided to give it a whirl. Let me tell you...de-lish. The only down side is that this gorgeous, imperfectly perfect culinary masterpiece was demolished last night. However, there are more pears and dough sitting in my freezer that I'm fighting the urge to put in the oven for an afternoon snack.

Though this glorious galette needs nothing to adorn it's scrumptious flavors, we had it with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream and drizzled the top with caramel. YUM-O.

How can you NOT want to eat this?
By the way, my dad made the totally awesome cutting board that the galette is perched on. It's burned in my childhood memory and now it's in my possession. Yeah, he's pretty cool.

So easy...just roll it out, plop the pears on top, then pinch the edges around.

Cheers,
SK
